American Airlines Has New Business Class Seats—Here’s What You’ll Get

Business Class launching-If you’re planning to fly long-haul soon, there’s some exciting news from American Airlines that could make your trip a lot more comfortable. Starting this week, the airline is launching its brand-new Flagship Suite business class seats on board its latest Boeing 787-9P Dreamliner aircraft. These premium cabins are designed to offer travelers a more private, spacious, and luxurious flying experience—perfect for both business and leisure travelers.

What’s New in the Boeing 787-9P?

The “P” in the 787-9P model refers to “premium,” and it’s not difficult to understand why. The upgraded plane is one of 30 new Dreamliners American Airlines is introducing to its fleet. It hits the skies on June 5, with its maiden routes departing from Chicago to Los Angeles and Chicago to London Heathrow. Additional routes will come aboard during the next few months.

During a recent Dallas showcase, American unveiled to the public for the first time the new interior of the plane. Passengers can now indulge in premium Flagship Suite business class, reimagined Premium Economy, and new Main Cabin seats. All this is done as part of a larger push to enhance the flying experience and match the other big carriers such as Delta and United.

Flagship Suite: A New Level of Comfort

The largest feather in the cap of this new plane is the Flagship Suite business class. The suites are enclosed with sliding doors, providing full privacy—a first for American Airlines. Each suite has a fully lie-flat bed, additional legroom, and personal lighting. There are 51 suites in all, one seat next to each window and paired seats in the middle that have a divider if you like more privacy.

What sets these suites apart is the capability to recline into a flat-bed and then slide up into a seated lounge position—without ever switching out of bed mode. This innovation is unprecedented among U.S. airlines and was uniquely certified and patented by American Airlines.

The suites are also filled with features designed with care, such as:

  • Wireless charging and USB-C outlets
  • 17.5-inch HD entertainment screens
  • Personal storage stowage bins for essentials such as glasses or water bottles
  • Nest-branded pillows and slippers for ultimate comfort
  • Cool-touch duvets and pillows to ensure more comfortable sleeping during overnight flights
  • Flagship Suite Preferred: Even More Exclusive

American Airlines is also launching an even more premium level Business Class called Flagship Suite Preferred. These eight seats, at the business class cabin’s front, have 20% more room than normal Flagship Suites. Their occupants enjoy:

  • Pajamas and a bigger amenity kit with high-end skin care items
  • Heavyweight bedding, such as a memory foam mattress pad
  • More privacy and a quieter cabin position

For now, you can reserve these Preferred seats for the same cost as standard Flagship Suites—just be sure to choose your seat early on the map.

Where Will These Planes Fly?

American Airlines presently operates three of these new 787-9P aircraft but has more arriving. In early July, the Flagship Suites will be added to all three Chicago-to-London daily flights. Other routes are:

  • Philadelphia to London Heathrow from August 6
  • Philadelphia to Zurich from September 3
  • Dallas/Ft. Worth to Auckland and Brisbane later in October 2025

American will also include the Flagship Suites in its upcoming Airbus A321XLR aircraft and plans to upgrade its Boeing 777-300ER planes with the new cabin layout.

  • Upgrades to Premium Economy and Main Cabin
  • Not flying business class? You’ll still enjoy new features in Premium Economy, including:
  • More legroom and headrest wings
  • Pull-out calf and footrests
  • 13-inch screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and wireless charging
  • Noise-reducing headphones, blankets, and lumbar pillows

In Main Cabin, there will be a 3-3-3 seating arrangement, 11.5-inch displays, and the same advanced charging and Bluetooth amenities. Free Wi-Fi will be offered to all AAdvantage members on this plane beginning in early 2026.

Even More Upgrades Beyond the Plane

American Airlines is also enhancing the overall flying experience. From new lounge expansions (such as the Flagship Lounge in Philadelphia) to improved in-app features, the airline is putting in a lot of effort to make traveling easier. Even small moves like boarding five minutes sooner are reducing delays and enhancing efficiency.

The airline is also implementing new domestic snack offerings and is piloting real-time gate updates with improved technology at its key hubs.

Final Thoughts

With these new premium upgrades, American Airlines is obviously trying to woo long-distance travelers who desire comfort and style. Whether flying within the country or around the globe, these new cabins provide an easier and more enjoyable ride. If you’re traveling to London, Zurich, or to the antipodes to New Zealand or Australia, perhaps now is the time to sample American’s new Flagship Suites.
